Smuggler caught with 100 bags of cocaine in his stomach
A Liberian citizen has been arrested with more than two pounds of cocaine in his stomach this weekend on the Norwegian-Swedish border, customs officials said today.
The 41-year-old, whose name was withheld, was a passenger on an express bus from Sweden to south-eastern Norway, and needed medical attention shortly after he was detained late Saturday, said Wenche Fredriksen, of the Norwegian Customs, Eastern Region.
“We became suspicious about the man, and took him in for a closer check,” she said on the state radio network NRK.
“After a while, he admitted that he had swallowed 100 bags of cocaine, or about one kilogram.”
He was taken to the Oestfold Hospital in the town of Fredrikstad, where the bags of cocaine were removed.
