Authorities evacuated buildings around Berlin’s landmark Brandenburg Gate today after finding an unexploded Second World War-era bomb nearby, police said.

It was not immediately clear where the bomb was found, but explosives experts were on their way to handle it.

Construction of a new US Embassy nearby is currently underway.

Sixty years after the end of the war, it is still relatively common to find bombs in the German capital, which was largely destroyed.
