Police: 13 killed in Romanian bus crash
A bus carrying textile workers crashed into a tree in southern Romania today, killing at least 13 people and critically injuring another six, police said.
“The bus was carrying 21 women and three men who worked at a textile factory,” local police spokeswoman Daniela Salaoru said.
Ten victims died instantly in the crash, and three died on the way to a hospital in Slobozia, about 60 miles east of Bucharest, Salaoru said.
Realitatea TV reported that another person died from head injuries after arriving at a hospital in Bucharest. The report the report could not immediately be confirmed.
Television broadcast images of bodies scattered around the bus, the front of which was crushed after ramming into the roadside tree.
Some of the injured were being taken to Bucharest’s Emergency Hospital, Realitatea reported.
The driver had left Slobozia in the direction of the Black Sea port of Constanta when the bus went out of control, news agency Mediafax reported.
