First Labour MP defects to Sharon's new party

A leading member of Israel’s Labour Party, Haim Ramon, today became the first politician in his faction to join Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s new political list.

Sharon quit the Likud Party he helped to found more than three decades ago because party dissidents opposed to his Gaza Strip withdrawal threatened to paralyse him in parliament.
