Two killed by Sri Lanka bomb
A bomb exploded in an eastern Sri Lankan town today and initial reports said at least two people were killed and six others critically injured.
Deputy Inspector General of Police of eastern Sri Lanka, M Dharmaratna said two Tamil Tiger rebels were in the process of priming a bomb when it exploded, killing them on the spot.
“It was a powerful bomb and our reports say that at least six others were critically wounded,” he said.
The incident took place in Kalmunai, a Muslim-majority town in eastern Sri Lanka.
Ethnic Tamils also live in the area and the Tigers have been at odds with Muslims. Dharmaratna said the incident was related to the ongoing presidential voting.
