Egypt building collapse leaves at least eight dead

A section of a four-storey building collapsed in Alexandria today, killing eight people and injuring another eight, Egypt’s semi-official Middle East News Agency reported.

The injured people were pulled from the rubble and taken to hospital, the agency reported.

The building is in the Moharambeg district of Alexandria, Egypt’s second largest city and Mediterranean port.

The report gave no reason for the collapse, but said police were investigating.

Building collapses are not uncommon in Egypt and are usually blamed on shoddy construction and a failure to respect regulations.
