Eight killed in bus crash
At least eight factory workers were killed and some 70 others injured today after a packed bus collided with a second bus near Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka.
At least five workers died instantly, while three others died of their injuries before reaching hospital, the United News of Bangladesh reported.
The accident on a road near Savar industrial town sparked violence, with hundreds of workers coming out of their factories and attacking passing vehicles in apparent anger over the authorities’ inability to enforce road safety, it said.
About 20 people were injured in the attacks. Extra police were deployed in the area to bring the situation under control.
Road accidents in Bangladesh kill about 4,000 people each year.
