Police arrested 67 women in southern India on charges of murder after they allegedly killed a man suspected of being a black magic sorcerer.

Parvathalu, a barber, was beaten and locked up in his shop by a group of 150 women who then set fire to the shop in Muddireddypalli village, said C. Satyanarayana, a local police officer.

The villagers suspected the man of black magic and held him responsible for the large number of deaths in the village in the past year.

The attack on Parvathalu was prompted by the death of another woman earlier this week, police said.

Police planned to arrest all the women involved in the attack, Satyanarayana said.
