British rocker to marry daughter of Ukraine's ex-PM
A heavy metal singer, former key cutter and cobbler from Leeds was to marry the daughter of Yulia Tymoshenko, Ukraine’s most influential woman and the ex-prime minister, a spokesman said today.
The wedding between Sean Carr, 36, a biker and lead singer of the Death Valley Screamers, and Evhenya Tymoshenko, 25, was scheduled for Sunday in Kiev, said Petro Yakobchuk, a spokesman for the former prime minister.
According to Kiev tabloids, Carr and his bride will marry in a Ukrainian Orthodox Church overlooking the Dnipro River.
Evhenya Tymoshenko, a student at the London School of Economics, who often accompanied her mother to rallies during last year’s Orange Revolution, met her future husband in a bar at an Egyptian resort, but the romance only began several months later at a British bikers’ festival.
Carr visited Ukraine for the first time during the Orange Revolution to see his would-be mother-in-law leading throngs of people who rallied against the fraudulent presidential vote.
In an interview carried by Ukrainian tabloids earlier this year, Carr was quoted as saying that he was initially terrified of his fiancee’s powerful mother.
“Now I call her Mama,” he was quoted as saying.
He has since moved his Harley Davidson and his Rottweiler Salem to Kiev.
Tymoshenko, who lost her government post when President Viktor Yushchenko dismissed her Cabinet earlier this month, was quoted previously as saying that her future son in-law “is an excellent person” with “a beautiful name”.
“He is an artistic person and I like that very much. I am glad he is not a businessman,” she was quoted as saying on a Ukrainian news website.
