Seven killed as train hits minibus in Pakistan

A train hit a minibus at an unmanned railroad crossing in northwestern Pakistan today, killing at least seven people and injuring seven others, police said.

All of the casualties were from the same family who were going to attend the wedding of a close relative when the accident occurred at the town of Shah Maqsood, about 60 miles east of Peshawar, said Ataullah Wazir, the regional police chief.

He gave no further details other than saying all dead and injured have been transported to a hospital.

Pakistan’s railway system is outdated.

Authorities say they have not put staff at many crossings because of a shortage of funds.
