Exam cheats in China could receive up to seven years in prison under a proposed law following a string of cheating scandals surrounding the national university entrance test.

The law is China’s first formal attempt at standardising requirements and criminal punishments for cheating, covering national-level exams such as the college admission test, graduate admissions exams and national English competence exams.
