Injured Yeltsin has hip operation

Doctors at a Moscow hospital have conducted a hip operation on former President Boris Yeltsin who suffered a fall during a holiday on an Italian island, a Russian news agency said today.

The Interfax news agency cited Yeltsin’s spokesman Vladimir Shevchenko as saying doctors had operated on the 74-year-old former president.

The report could not be immediately confirmed and Shevchenko could be not be reached for comment.
