Saddam trial to begin on October 19

The Iraqi government announced today that the trial of Saddam Hussein will begin on October 19.

The statement by government spokesman Laith Kubba confirms widespread speculation that the former strongman and several of his closest aides will face trial immediately after the national referendum on Iraq’s constitution on October 15.
