Nato ready to help US in Katrina aftermath

Nato Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer pledged his alliance’s support and assistance today for the US following the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina.

“Whenever and wherever … the US asks for assistance not only of individual Nato allies but of Nato as an alliance, Nato stands ready to answer these calls,” Scheffer told reporters in Sofia after a meeting with Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov.
