A small twin-engine plane crashed shortly after take-off from the Colombian capital Bogota today, killing at least eight people, aviation officials said.

The plane, which was heading from Bogota’s private Guaymaral airstrip for the central town of Puerto Berrio, apparently suffered mechanical problems, said Fernando Sanclemente, director of Colombia’s Civil Aviation agency.
