Blair enjoying Barbados sunshine
British Prime Minister Tony Blair and his wife Cherie are on holiday in Barbados, Downing Street disclosed today.
No 10 lifted a news blackout on the Blairs’ holiday location after the UK premier attended a memorial service on the island last night for Barbadian war veterans.
The British Prime Minister's director of communications, David Hill, wrote to news organisations in July asking them not to report the holiday location for security reasons.
Mr Blair went on holiday on August 6 and Downing Street refuse to say when he will return.
He has been criticised for not breaking his holiday to attend the funeral of former British Foreign Secretary Robin Cook or yesterday’s V-J Day commemorations in London, where British Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott represented the UK government.
