Police have said that a fire on a bus in central London was 'not suspicious'.

Police said that a small fire had occurred on the number 205 bus and that nobody was injured.

“Everyone panicked, but it was only a small fire and no one was hurt,” a spokesman said.

Police were earlier called to the scene of the smoking bus near King’s Cross station.

A London Fire Brigade spokesman said: “There was a small fire on a bus and it seems there was a bag found as well. Nobody was injured.”

Florrie Rosete, owner of Sam Widges sandwich shop in Gray's Inn Road, said the bus in question was just yards from her establishment.

She went on: “There are loads of police around as well as firefighters. I can see the bus. I don’t think there was a bang, or an explosion, or anything like that.

“I understand a package was left inside the bus and the roads around have been sealed off. The driver contacted the police and they quickly turned up.”
