July 21 suspect charged in Rome

London bombing suspect Hussain Osman, also known as Hamdi Issac, arrested in Rome last week, has been charged under Italy’s anti-terrorism laws, his lawyer said today.

The Ethiopian-born suspect, sought in connection with a failed July 21st attack at the Shepherd’s Bush Underground station, was charged with association with the aim of international terrorism and with possessing false documents, said Antonietta Sonnessa, his lawyer.

Sonnessa said nothing had been decided today concerning Britain’s extradition request for Issac.

Asked if her client was co-operating with investigators, she said: “I wouldn’t say we’re talking about collaboration; he gave his statements.”

She said she would appeal the judge’s decision to charge her client.
