At least one person was killed today when an avalanche from one of Mont Blanc’s summits sent huge chunks of ice down a slope frequented by climbers, police said.

Three people were injured as a 400m (1,312ft) wide wall of moving ice smashed down a slope from the 4,248m (13,937ft) peak of Mont Blanc de Tucul, one of the tallest in the Mont Blanc range.
