Random bag searches on New York’s underground system were today expanded to include ferries, buses, light rail and air trains in renewed efforts to prevent a London-style attack.

The security measure was also launched in New Jersey after a weekend of jitters which saw a sightseeing bus raided and a bomb scare shut down the nation’s busiest commuter train station.
