Police given more time to quiz teenage rape suspect

Police were today granted more time to question a teenager over the rape of three young girls who were playing in a park.

The 14-year-old boy was arrested after three children – two aged eight and one aged seven – were raped in Mandley Park in Salford, Greater Manchester, on Sunday.

The girls had been playing on swings when a boy approached and took them to a secluded area of the park where he raped them.

A fourth girl, aged 10, was sexually molested in the attack on Sunday between 5pm and 6.40pm.

A Greater Manchester Police spokeswoman said: “The boy was arrested at 3.25am on Monday on suspicion of rape.

“Detectives have obtained a warrant of further detention to continue questioning the boy for another 24 hours.”
