British ministers in emergency talks

Ministers were today holding emergency talks on the explosions.

Commons leader Geoff Hoon told MPs ministers were assessing and clarifying the situation.

Home Secretary Charles Clarke will make a Commons statement later today.

In a brief emergency statement, Mr Hoon said: “The House will be aware there have been a number of very serious incidents across London this morning.

“The relevant ministers are meeting to assess and clarify the situation.

“A statement will be made at the earliest opportunity. But obviously it is important they should have the opportunity of identifying precisely what has happened before they come to the House.”
