UNESCO launches Indian Ocean tsunami warning system

The United Nation’s scientific and cultural body today launched a tsunami warning system for the Indian Ocean region to prevent a repeat of December’s disaster.

UNESCO’s oceanographic commission, in charge of the project, set up a committee to oversee the system, with the first meeting set for August.
