US helicopter crashes in Iraq

A US helicopter crashed in a field north of Baghdad this morning, witnesses said. There were no immediate reports of casualties.

The crash happened at about 11.45am (08.45am Irish time) in Mishada, 20 miles north of the capital.

The helicopter was in flames on the ground.

The US military said it had an unconfirmed report of a downed helicopter and officials were trying to track down details.
