US soldier killed, seven rebels injured in fighting

One US soldier and seven rebels were killed and three American troops were wounded in fighting today in eastern Afghanistan, the US military said.

The clash occurred in Paktika province, near the Pakistani border, after the insurgents ambushed a patrol of US-led coalition and Afghan forces, a military statement said.
