6.3-magnitude quake strikes off Indonesian coast
A 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck off the Indonesian coast today, Hong Kong seismologists said.
It wasn’t immediately clear if there were casualties or damage.
The tremor was centred 170 miles south-west of Medan and was recorded in Hong Kong at 2.34pm (7.34am Irish Time), the Hong Kong Observatory said.
Indonesia has been repeatedly rocked by temblors after a massive tsunami-producing quake hit off its coast on December 26 last year, killing more than 176,000 people in 11 countries, and leaving about 50,000 missing and hundreds of thousands homeless.
