A car bomb targeting a restaurant where bodyguards of Iraq’s Kurdish deputy prime minister were eating killed nine people and injured 25 in the country’s northern region today.

A car bomb targeting a restaurant where bodyguards of Iraq’s Kurdish deputy prime minister were eating killed nine people and injured 25 in the country’s northern region today.

The bomb exploded at 8am local time (5am Irish time) in Tuz Khormato, a town 55 miles south of the northern oil city of Kirkuk, said said police Brigadier Sarhad Qadre.

One of deputy prime minister Rowsch Nouri Shaways’ bodyguards was among the nine killed.

Twenty-five people were injured, including six of Shaways’ bodyguards. Shaways was not at the restaurant.
