Riots rumble on in Karachi

Dozens of stone-throwing Muslim youths set fire to shops in the Pakistani city of Karachi today as sectarian unrest rumbled on despite a citywide shutdown called by a hardline Islamic alliance to protest against violence that has left 12 dead this week.

About 100 Sunni Muslims rioted in the city’s eastern Malir neighbourhood after the funeral of a Sunni man who was killed in a shootout with Shiites last night, said police officer Wasim Akbar Baluch.
