Surfing pioneer Velzy dies in US

Master surfboard designer Dale Velzy, who helped popularise surfing along the California coast and at one time was the world’s largest maker of surfboards, has died. He was 77.

Velzy died on Thursday of lung cancer at the Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo, hospital administrative supervisor Brian Noakes said today.
