Hurricane region 'unprepared'
Many countries in Latin America and the Caribbean are not ready for the upcoming hurricane season, which is forecast to be severe, the United Nations’ head of humanitarian relief says.
Governments in the region still have a lot of work to do if they are to avoid a repeat of 2004, when nearly 3,000 lives were lost, mostly in Haiti, Jan Egeland told The Associated Press. The hurricane season begins on June 1.
