Last-ditch effort to get voters to the polls

The UK's main parties were engaged in an intensive effort today to get their supporters out to vote in the general election that will decide whether Tony Blair wins a historic third term.

A final Mori poll for the Evening Standard in London put Labour on 38%, five points ahead of the Conservatives on 33%, with the Liberal Democrats on 23%.
