Stolen Picasso recovered by police
Authorities in northern Italy have recovered seven 20th-century artworks, including a painting by Pablo Picasso, police said.
Also recovered were a sculpture by Italian artist Arnaldo Pomodoro, a six-panel painting by British artists Gilbert and George, and a painting by Italian Giorgio Morandi, said police Capt Andrea Ilari in Monza, near Milan.
Ilari said the artworks had an overall value of £880,000. The Picasso painting, titled View of Cannes, was from a private collection and had been stolen in 1992, he said.
French police arrested a man in Nice, southern France, who they suspect of trafficking the artworks, Ilari said. Nine other people are being investigated in the case.
Traffickers were preparing to sell the art in Italy and abroad, Ilari said.
