Pope to make first Italy pilgrimage

Pope Benedict XVI will make his first pilgrimage in Italy - a day trip to a religious congress in the southern city of Bari - on May 29, officials said today.

Pope John Paul II had been hoping to make the trip but in January had named a cardinal to represent him because of his frail condition, officials said at the time.
