Firecrackers explosion kills 10

At least 10 people died when firecrackers they were making for a Hindu religious festival exploded in southern India, police said today.

Another 13 people were injured in the blast last night in a remote village in Srikakulam district, nearly 500 miles east of Hyderabad, the capital of Andhra Pradesh state.

The impact of the blast caused the government building where the firecrackers were being made to collapse.

Four houses nearby were also damaged.
