US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said today that Washington was hoping to make progress toward more open inspections of Russian nuclear installations before a May meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President George Bush.

Rice arrived in Moscow yesterday for discussions in preparation for Bush’s visit next month during celebrations of the Allied victory over Nazi Germany in the Second World War.
