Berlusconi trails in Italian elections

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s coalition was behind in regional elections held across Italy today, exit polls showed.

The two days of voting, overshadowed by the Pope’s death, to elect governors and councils in 13 of Italy’s 20 regions is considered an important indicator of the centre-right government’s strength ahead of general elections due next year.
