Pope John Paul II’s body went on display at the Vatican’s Apostolic Palace today.

Vatican television showed the remains of the 84-year-old pontiff, who died on Saturday evening, clad in crimson vestments with a white mitre.

Mourners included Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and Vatican clerics. The body will be transferred from the Clementine Hall in the Apostolic Palace around 5pm (3pm Irish time) on Monday for public viewing in St. Peter’s Basilica.
