Samoans batten down for 190mph hurricane
Residents boarded up homes, businesses and church buildings on American Samoa today as a 190 mph hurricane headed toward the Pacific islands.
Hurricane Olaf was expected to pass near the US territory’s main island of Tutuila early tomorrow.
Governor Togiola Tulafono declared a state of emergency and asked US President George Bush to issue a disaster declaration as officials warned of an “extremely dangerous” storm.
