Iraqi election result delayed again

Iraqi officials need “only a few days maximum” to complete the vote count from the national elections held in January 30.

Officials had expected to announce a final tally yesterday, but they later said the process had been delayed because of the need to recount votes from about 300 ballot boxes.

“The counting is in the very final stages,” said the head of the election commission, Abdul-Hussein Hendawi. “There are almost 3% of the ballots remaining for the National Assembly that are still being counted – only a few days maximum.”
