27 die in Indian bus crash
At least 27 people were killed when an overloaded bus skidded off a mountain road in India’s Jammu-Kashmir state today, police said.
More than 60 people were travelling in the bus to Udhampur, a garrison town 55 miles north of Jammu, the state’s winter capital.
Thirty-five passengers were injured in the accident and were taken to a nearby hospital, police officer JS Jamwal said. Rescue workers recovered 27 bodies, he said.
Jamwal said it was raining at the time, although the exact cause of the accident was not immediately known.
