Ambush kills 12 Iraqi army soldiers

Gunmen ambushed Iraqi security forces in northern Iraq, killing 12 Iraqi army soldiers, an officer said today.

The Iraqi troops were returning to the northern city of Kirkuk, where they guard oil facilities. Armed men ambushed them yesterday near the village of Zab, 40 miles southwest of the city, said Maj Gen Anwar Mohammed Amin.
