Blunkett's ex-lover gives birth to boy: Reports

The former lover of British ex-Home Secretary David Blunkett has given birth to a baby boy, it was reported today.

The Daily Mail and The Sun said that Kimberly Quinn, 44, had the child by planned Caesarean section at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London, yesterday.

Mr Blunkett has previously claimed that the child is his.

He is engaged in a legal bid to gain access to Mrs Quinn’s two-year-old son, after tests reportedly established that he was the boy’s father.

A spokeswoman for St Mary’s Hospital this evening declined to comment on the reports, refusing even to say whether Mrs Quinn was a patient at the hospital.

None of the parties were available for comment last night.

But the Mail quoted Mr Quinn, publisher of Vogue magazine, as saying: “I’m very pleased. Everything is fine and it’s a great day. I’ve got loads of calls to make and e-mails to send. There are all kinds of people I need to speak to. I’ve got a great deal to do.”

He refused to reveal the baby’s name, saying: “I’ve taken the decision to stop talking about the details of my private life. It’s best for me not to say too much.”

Mr Blunkett, 57, quit as Home Secretary in December after it emerged that his private office had intervened in a visa application by Mrs Quinn’s nanny.

He had a three-year affair with Mrs Quinn, who is the publisher of The Spectator magazine, starting shortly after her marriage in 2001.

The relationship broke down last summer, and the pair have since been involved in acrimonious disputes over access to the children.

Mr Quinn’s boss, Nicholas Coleridge, managing director of the Conde Nast publishing group, told the Mail: “Stephen phoned me this morning with the good news. It’s a healthy baby boy, and they are very pleased.”

The paper reported that Mr Quinn had taken her older son into the hospital to meet his new brother.
