Bomb explodes in Spanish resort

A bomb exploded today in a hotel in the town of Denia in south-east Spain, news reports said.

There was no immediate word on casualties.

The bomb detonated in the Hotel Port Denia around 3.15pm (2.15pm Irish time), the news agency Efe reported.

Denia is a resort town on Spain’s Costa Blanca.

The bomb exploded after a telephone warning from the Basque separatist group ETA, officials said.

The Interior Ministry office in the south-east Alicante region where the bombing took place said it was not immediately known if there were casualties.

Efe quoted police as saying the hotel was evacuated immediately after the warning call and the bomb exploded about half an hour after the warning, received by police in the Basque region.
