India: 30 feared dead in festival stampede
Thousands of Hindus panicked during a religious procession in western India today, triggering a stampede that killed at least 10 people.
Chandra Kent, the superintendent of police in the town of Satara, said 10 people had died, and many more people had been injured.
But TV reports said 30 people were feared trampled to death in the town, in western Maharashtra state.
More than 100,000 people are reported to have gathered for the Hindu festival.
