Quake shakes northern Japan
A magnitude 6.3 earthquake hit the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido today.
The Meteorological Agency said there no danger of a tsunami and there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.
The quake was centred about 30 miles under the seabed off the coast of Kushiro, 550 miles north-west of Tokyo.
TV footage showed computers and books shaking on office desks in the city of Kushiro.
