Two dead, five missing as cargo ship sinks
Two sailors were killed and five others were missing today after a North Korean flagged cargo ship sank in a storm in the eastern Aegean Sea, authorities said.
Three sailors of the Lady O ship were rescued by helicopter and a nearby vessel and hospitalised on the nearby island of Chios.
The Merchant Marine Ministry said crew were from Egypt and Libya, but had no other details. Two dead bodies were found in a life raft.
The Lady O was carrying 732 metric tons from the central Greek port of Halkida to Istanbul, Turkey.
Snow storms and gale-force winds disrupted transport and other services across Greece today. On the island of Evia, one man was killed after handling a downed electricity cable, officials said.
