440 Britons dead or missing in tsunami disaster

Around 440 Britons are either dead or missing in the Asian tsunami disaster, British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said today.

During a visit to Thailand, Mr Straw said 49 had been confirmed dead and 391 remained unaccounted for.

The announcement effectively more than doubled the previous estimate of around 40 confirmed dead and 159 missing.
