Six die in Baghdad car bomb

A suicide car bomb detonated near an Iraqi National Guards barracks today in western Baghdad, killing six people and wounding 40, police said.

The blast in Baghdad’s Qadessiyah district occurred not far from the site of yesterday’s explosion in front of Iraqi Prime Minister Ayad Allawi’s party headquarters which killed two police officers, one civilian and injured 25 other Iraqis.

Thick white smoke billowed from the area of yesterday’s blast.

The Guardsmen have been repeatedly targeted by insurgents who are trying to derail this month’s parliamentary elections.
