A Dutch citizen is suspected of selling as much as €1.3m worth of heroin, cocaine and other drugs in Austria, authorities said today.

The 26-year-old suspect, whose name was not released, was arrested during a routine traffic stop in Austria on his way back from the Netherlands. Police said they found heroin, cocaine and marijuana hidden in a sports bag that had been fitted with a false bottom, and more drugs in a backpack.

They did not specify when the arrest was made.

Investigators said the suspect lived a double life, passing himself off as a Nigerian immigrant who had obtained residency in Austria and claimed to be working as a newspaper vendor in the western city of Linz.

Police said he was suspected of involvement in the sale last month of drugs in Vienna.
