51 die after drinking poisonous alcohol

Poisonous liquor sold by an illegal alcohol bar in India’s financial capital has killed 51 people and sent nearly 100 others to hospital over two days, provoking city-wide raids on alcohol vendors, a municipal official said today.

Police arrested the woman who owned the bar, and 6,800 gallons of illicit home-made liquor had been seized in raids across the city at other illegally run liquor shops, a senior excise officer said.
